As I flew in the day before J & B’s wedding, I remarked at how beautiful the Bulkey Valley looked at that time of year. It was a bit of a grey day, but it made the fall colours stand out all the more prominently. There are not really any fall reds in northern BC (at least not many that I have seen), but what you do get are the most amazing yellows, burnt umbers and everything in between. I was somewhat glued to the little airplane window as we circled around town for the right entry onto the tarmac. So much beauty.
The day of the wedding, the weather could not have been more perfect. The sky was one big softbox and the light was so soft and pretty that day. I arrived at the couple’s lovely home in a new subdivision in town and was somewhat giddy with all the windows and gorgeous light to work with. And not to mention so many wonderful little places to put things. The first order of the day were J’s dressing details, which I had a lot of fun with. Her Seychelles shoes were such a fun fall colour and I *may* have taken a few too many of the shoes alone. Oooops. J’s fall bouquet designed by Appreciations Flowers was just the right amount of colour and her Allure Romance bridal gown was such a classic look. J had some special jewelry, including a vintage bracelet that has been passed down through her mother’s paternal side. The series of J putting the bracelet on are some of my favourite images from that morning. B’s Banana Republic suit was so dapper and the finishing touch was a gold nugget tie pin from his grandfather who owned over a hundred suits. What a great little detail with so such a story behind it.
J & B did a First Look, but this was a bit different. They really love their house and being at home so we had J’s big reveal on the stairs into the foyer where B was waiting for her. I really loved this! It was such a sweet moment. They then did their own personal ring exchange in the living room before we headed out for some portraits of the two of them. There was no wedding party so we were able to take some time to go to two different locations, both equally amazing. I have perhaps a bit of an unhealthy obsession with white-barked trees - aspens, poplar, birch - anything like that is A OK by me. So when I found an open aspen forest while scouting the day before, I knew we just had to use it. I’m so glad we braved the cow pies to do so (did I mention that I have the best brides EVER?).
The ceremony was at Round Lake Hall and they walked in together. The reception decor had so many personal little touches and most things were made by J & B’s army of support, right down to the coffee filter garlands that draped across the windows. Two Sisters Catering made the delicious meal which everyone greatly enjoyed. Then it was time for the party!
Thanks so much to J & B for having me at their beautiful fall Smithers, BC wedding - the whole day was just so marvelous, right down to the smallest details (am I allowed to mention the shoes again?). I oh so wish fall could last all year long as it’s my favourite season, but perhaps that’s one reason we can appreciate it so much - it only comes around once a year and lasts for so little a time. I hope you enjoy looking at these as we enter into a new season…..winter!
